Our next Hero in the Hallways is Dr. Brent Trankler, Junior High and High School Principal! 💪

Dr. Trankler is in his third year at Oran R-III Schools, but his connection to the district goes back much further. As an Oran R-III graduate, he says having the opportunity to return, serve the school that helped shape him, and give back to the community makes his work especially meaningful.

For Dr. Trankler, the people are what make Oran such a special place. He values the strong faculty, great students, supportive community, and shared pride in helping students and the school succeed.

One of his proudest professional accomplishments came during his time at Sikeston Career and Technology Center, when he received the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence Grand Prize. The $100,000 award provided updated tools and equipment that continue to benefit students, including students from Oran.

Dr. Trankler says he is incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve as a principal in his hometown and for the trust the Oran community has placed in him.

Thank you, Dr. Trankler, for serving your school and community!

Our “Did You Know?” series continues with a look at fixed costs.

Did you know that many school district expenses remain the same regardless of enrollment? 💰

Every district must maintain safe facilities, reliable technology, transportation, staffing, and essential student services. For Oran R-III, annual costs include approximately $85,000 for utilities, $257,000 for insurance, and $93,000 for technology.

These costs do not decrease at the same rate as enrollment. With fewer students to spread those expenses across, fixed costs have an even greater financial impact on small districts.

No matter our enrollment, we must continue providing the services and resources necessary to operate our schools safely and effectively. 🏫

Our next Hero in the Hallway is Shea Dumey, elementary Title reading teacher! 🌟

Now in her second year here, she says the strong sense of teamwork and family stood out to her from the very beginning.

“The moment I stepped inside the elementary office for my interview, I could feel such a strong sense of family and teamwork,” Shea says. “Everything and everyone who makes up our school has been a blessing, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to be part of this amazing team.”

After working in several school districts throughout the area, Shea says those experiences have given her an even deeper appreciation for the expectations, values, and goals that serve as the foundation of Oran R-III.

For Shea, being part of Oran R-III is meaningful both professionally and personally. She and her husband now have the joy of watching their own daughter thrive as a student at Oran Junior High.

We are proud to recognize Shea Dumey as a Hero in the Hallway and grateful for the care, experience, and commitment she brings to our students each day! 🤗

Our 2nd graders had a sweet time celebrating Johnny Appleseed Week! 🍎

Students taste-tested different apples while learning that thousands of apple varieties are grown across the United States. They used their observation skills to describe each apple’s appearance, discussed what made each variety different, and, of course, chose their favorites.

It was a fun and delicious way to bring learning to life in the classroom! 🌟
