Our 1st graders have been learning about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe this week. We’ve been exploring what life was like in the 1600s and how different it was from the way we live today. One big difference we discussed was how people made their clothing. Both Native Americans and Pilgrims sewed their own garments, so today we practiced a simple straight stitch! Students used burlap with their initials, plastic sewing needles, and yarn to try this skill out. It was a wonderful hands-on activity that helped strengthen their fine motor skills, listening, and patience.

Oran High School has a new Sewing Club this year. Our 4 members just completed their 1st project-tote bags. Students practiced sewing basics, learned new skills, and created something they can use every day. We’re so proud of their hard work and creativity. Excellent work by all our student makers! 🪡🦅

Last week’s "Soaring Eagle” for 1st grade was Charlotte Reeves! Our behavior goal this week was: try your best, even when it's hard. Charlotte is continuously working hard in the classroom, even when things get harder! She is a hard worker every day and does her best on all of her work. Charlotte will get to bring our classroom eagle home with her this evening! 🦅 💙
