We had an incredible time at FCA Fields of Faith 2025. We are grateful for a night of worship, testimonies, and community.

This week’s “Soaring Eagle” in 1st grade is Leighton Friga! Our behavior goal this week was: using our classroom materials the right way, and Leighton always makes good choices when working in and outside of the classroom! She gets to take our classroom Eagle home for the weekend! 🦅 💙

Our high school volleyball team raised $1,190.37 for breast cancer research during our annual Pink Out Game! Thank you to everyone who donated, cheered, and wore pink to show your support. 🏐🎀

The library is not just a place to find your next great read. Dual-enrolled high school students utilize the space to knock out college homework. High school students took a brain break today to listen to 4th grade students read aloud before taking an AR test. Some of the high schoolers took time to make recommendations to the young readers.

Learning physics with toys! Mrs. Daniel's physics students made use of matchbox cars and track to reinforce their knowledge of linear motion. Students looked at how mass affects velocity and acceleration over a three meter track. They used their data to create a line graph of acceleration for two cars.

Just a reminder about the upcoming ACT Blitz hosted by ACE Tutoring at Oran High School on October 20th. It is open to all OHS students in grades 10-12.

Students must register directly with ACE Tutoring—the school will not handle registrations. This ensures the process runs smoothly and that ACE provides enough materials for all participants.

🦅 💙 This week's “Soaring Eagle of the week” was Emersyn Scherer!! She is always making great, smart choices and is a greta example of how we SOAR in first grade! Emersyn gets to get her photo on our “Eagle Gram” in the hallway and take home our classroom eagle Talon Swift for some adventures over the weekend! Our behavior goal this week was: Walk nicely in the hallways and in the classroom.

It was a big day for our varsity volleyball team as they brought home the championship title at the Charleston Blue Jay Invitational Tournament. 🏐🏆. We are proud of their hard work and determination! #OranPride #schoolhistory

📢 Community Announcement – Oran R-III School Parking Lots 📢

Effective immediately, we are asking that there be no loitering in the school parking lots after school hours.

This step is being taken to address vandalism, trash, and noise complaints while keeping our campus clean and welcoming for everyone.

The Class of 28 is selling whole, smoked pork butts! They are $40 and will be HOT and ready to eat at pick up on Saturday, October 18th between 6-7pm in the High School Lobby. You may order through any sophomore student OR email Mrs. Daniel (cdaniel@oran.k12.mo.us). Deadline for orders is Friday, October 10th. Payment is due with order.

The Class of 2026 had the opportunity to visit Three Rivers College for Raiders Preview Day. They toured the campus, listened to the choir and jazz band and got hands on experience in many of the programs offered at Three Rivers.

These Junior Beta Club officers are heading to Nashville in June! They qualified in Project Proposal and Being Better Betas: Ethical Decision Making at the two day Beta Leadership Conference. They also placed 1st place in the Beta Scavenger Hunt!

Nationals is calling for the Senior Beta officers! We attended National Beta Leadership Summit in Cape Girardeau Sept. 24-25. We competed and qualified for National Convention in the following categories: Collaboration Connection, Beta Blitz, and Being Better Betas: Ethical Decision Making. Congratulations to Alex Burlison, Rylan White, Ava Forehand, Kade Wilson, Piper Bennett, Tyler Brashear, Fletcher Shoemaker, and Hudson Burlison.

Staff spotlight: Mrs. Jan Young What is your role at our school, and how long have you been here? This is my 21st year as elementary secretary. My job consist of answering phines, greeting visitors, helping students and teachers with various tasks, managing the school attendance and lunch accounts along with a few other things. What do you love most about working with students? I love when students want to share with me something important to them. We both benefit. Share a fun fact about yourself that students might not know about you. When I was young instead of having a pool in my backyard we had an 18 hole miniarure golf course. What was your favorite subject in school? I enjoyed English (even term papers) but my favorite classes were band especially marching band and a vo-tech class in Landscape Horticulture. What's one piece of advice you'd give to students? Don't be afraid to stand with those who are right. 1 Corinthians 16:13 Be on alert. Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.

Staff spotlight: Mr. Jon Simpher What inspired you to start teaching? I wanted to start teaching because of the influences some teachers and coaches had on me when I was younger. What do you love most about working with your students? I enjoy watching students succeed. That always looks different for each student but it is enjoyable watching students break through barriers and strive for success. What's a fun fact your students might not know about you? One fun fact is I enjoy hunting and fishing. What's one word you'd use to describe your classroom? One word that describes my classroom is fun. If you could give your students one piece of advice to carry with them, what would it be? A piece of advice I would give students to take with them would be always control what you can control. Work hard and gave a giid attitude. If you can do that then everything else will fall into place.

The 2nd grade scientists are exploring apples from the inside out. 🍎 Learning all about the parts of an apple and its life cycle!

The Oran FFA Chapter is conducting their annual mum sale! This year we have orange, yellow, yellow-orange, purple, pink, red and white. We also have tri-color (orange, yellow, white) and bi-color. You can order through an FFA member or contact Chris Asmus. These will be on a first come first serve basis. The single colored 8" potted plans are $10 each. The 10-12" potted plants are $15 each. The bi and tri colored plants in 10-12" pots are $20 each.
